Yachting around Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a small town, compactly located in the southern part of the Dalmatian coast. Despite its population (only about 40 thousand inhabitants), Dubrovnik is one of the most visited resorts on the Adriatic coast. This city attracts tourists from all over Europe with its magnificent architecture, ancient squares and streets, as well as picturesque parks and landscaped beaches.

In ancient times Dubrovnik was called Ragusium and in Italian it still sounds like “Ragusa”. The city owes its modern name to the ancient Slavic tribes. The development of Dubrovnik was largely determined by its strategic position - its inhabitants got food at sea, and also very successfully traded with other Mediterranean states.

Modern Dubrovnik has everything for a calm, measured rest - the mild Mediterranean climate, the air saturated with pine aromas, long beaches and a high level of service in hotels. As noted by the famous explorer and traveler Jacques-Yves Cousteau, it is in the vicinity of Dubrovnik that the water is the cleanest in the Adriatic.

Sights

It is believed that visiting Dubrovnik, you can see the whole of Croatia at once - so many characteristic features of this small southern European country are collected in it. And when you visit the city, you can easily be convinced of this, because there is everything for an informative holiday - varied architecture, picturesque landscapes, long beaches and restaurants with traditional cuisine.

The TOP-3 attractions of Dubrovnik include:

  1. The city walls, most of which were erected in the 13th century, and in the 15th century were supplemented by a number of massive towers. The huge fortress structure about 25 m high (except for the walls, the length of which is more than 1.5 km) also includes several towers and 3 fortresses. The most recognizable of the towers is the Mincheta Tower, crowned with a diadem;
  2. Old city. This place attracts with the atmosphere of antiquity - it is worth taking a walk along Stradun Street to fully feel it;
  3. Mount Srdj. At the top of the mountain there is an excellent observation deck, which offers wonderful views of Dubrovnik. If you are not a fan of hiking, you should use the funicular - it takes you to the top in a few minutes.

The walls offer a wonderful view of the city, the harbor and the sea. And on Stradun Street, you will get acquainted with interesting architecture - after a strong earthquake in 1667, baroque houses were built according to a general plan, and harmony and thoughtfulness can be traced everywhere. On both ends of the street there are fountains by the Italian architect Onofrio de La Cavi, and it ends with the famous Pile gate.

We also recommend visiting:

  • Love Stories Museum;
  • Fort Lovrijenac 14 under construction;
  • A monument of baroque architecture - the Church of Saint Blaise built in the 18th century;
  • Baroque Jesuit church 18th century - Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola;
  • Sponza Palace 16th century;
  • Clock Tower (Bell Tower) 15th century;
  • Quiet and picturesque botanical garden Arboretum in the village of Trsteno (Trsteno Arboretum), created in the early 15th century;

  • Dubrovnik Cathedral - according to legend, when Richard the Lionheart was returning from the Crusades in 1192, he was shipwrecked on the island. Lokrum and swore gratitude to God to build a large church in the place where his life was saved.

After walking along the city walls and fortifications, you can go to relax on the beach. There are many places for swimming in Dubrovnik - the coastline is almost entirely represented by a pebble beach, and for the convenience of visitors, concrete stairs have been built in many places. Sandy beaches are located mainly on the islands of Kolocep and Lopud. Near the Old Town you will find a small but very clean beach - it is equipped with lifeguard towers and has water entertainment centers. Volleyball competitions are also held here, and celebrities love this place for its special Eastern European atmosphere.

The coastline in the Dubrovnik region, cut by small picturesque bays, is dotted with numerous tourist villages. They are home to hospitable and friendly people who are always happy to help you create the best conditions for your vacation. The most popular among the tourist villages are Slano, Plat, Mlini, Cavtat, Ston. There are also villages on the numerous islets scattered along the mainland coast.

If you want to get to know the national traditions better by getting in touch with the province, you should definitely visit the village of Chilipi, located not far from Dubrovnik airport. To come here, it is better to choose a Sunday day, when local residents dress up in national costumes and entertainment events begin. Be sure to check out the souvenir shops, where a wide selection of local handicrafts is presented. After that, you should try the dishes of the national cuisine of Croatia - the Konavolski Dvori restaurant, which is considered the best catering establishment in the area, is well suited for this.

Lokrum

The small island of Lokrum, located not far from Dubrovnik, is famous first of all for its peacocks - these beautiful birds live in great numbers in this place of the Adriatic, while feeling themselves to be its owners. It should be noted that the island has a very large variety of fauna and exotic flora.

On Lokrum, you can walk to the Dead Lake, so named because of the salt water in it (it is connected to the sea).

Yachting

Dubrovnik's marinas are located in various locations. Mainly, yachtsmen use the ACI Marina Dubrovnik, which is located on the Dubrovachka River, 2 km from the city port. There are over 400 berths for yachts up to 75 m in length and with a draft of 5 m. The marina is very popular among those who prefer to rent a boat when organizing water recreation. Most of the companies organizing yacht charter in Croatia are based in this marina.

In the list of services provided at ACI Marina Dubrovnik:

  • Supply of vessels with drinking water and electricity;
  • Yacht maintenance;
  • Tennis courts;
  • Pool;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • CCTV;
  • Pizzeria;
  • A restaurant;
  • Bar.

Another option is the commercial port of Dubrovnik, where yachtsmen go through formalities related to crossing the border when traveling from neighboring countries. There is also a small port near the old town, but transit yachts are not allowed into it. This harbor is a stopover for small fishing boats and local excursion yachts. There are also anchorages in the Zaton Bay, located 2 km northwest of Dubrovnik. The most popular locations are opposite the village of Bolshoy Zaton and at the northern end of the bay.

14 km north-west of Dubrovnik is the ACI yacht marina Slano, which has 194 berths for yachts and floating pontoons. The list of services provided in the marina includes a swimming pool, a wellness center, an ATM, a car park, a car and bicycle rental, a laundry, a restaurant and an electric vehicle charging point.

You can also stop at the pier of the Ordinaxia restaurant in Slano Bay, where there is space for only a few yachts, or find an anchorage here (the northern corner of the bay, reliably sheltered from the dominant winds, is most popular, and with southerly winds, the southeastern corner is more preferable).
